Last Updated: 8/20/2021 5:09 PM

Guidelines - Fall 2021

In accordance with restart guidelines established by the Crestwood Schools, Crestwood Intermediate School has developed the following procedures for the 2021-22 school year. These procedures are intended to ensure student and staff health and safety. All procedures are subject to change as health alerts and the health of students and staff change. We will be implementing numerous protocols to how students arrive, how they move through the building, where they will eat, and more, all in an effort to provide as much physical distance as possible. This plan may be updated and is subject to change.

Please check the district’s website in regards to the 2021-2022 school plan, as some questions can be addressed there. If not, please contact us at 330-357-8203. Here is the link: Crestwood Safe Return to School and Continuity of Services.pd

Parent Student Handbook

  • Face Coverings: Face coverings are optional when in any school district building. Masks are required when riding any school bus or transportation. Disposable face coverings will be available in the main office.

  • Attendance: Each parent MUST complete the before-school health screening checklist prior to leaving home for the day. ALL parents will be required to contact the Attendance Line if their child will be absent.

  • Illness: This year, more than ever, it is important that students who are sick, have a fever, or do not feel well do NOT come to school. Those students who become ill during the in-person school day will be sent to the clinic and parents will be asked to pick their child up from school in a timely fashion. There will be a designated quarantined space for those students exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.

  • Desk Shields: We will be installing desk shields to create another layer of protection for students while in their classrooms. These shields will be cleaned and sanitized.

CIS Student Expectations

  • Visitors:

    • Visitors will be limited in the building during the school day.

    • If a parent/guardian has an emergency or needs to enter the building for a pre-planned meeting, they should call the main office to coordinate entry.

  • Arrival:

    • Students will enter the building through assigned doors.

    • The students’ temperature should be monitored at home. We have protocols in place if the student’s temperature is above 100 when they are at school.

    • Upon entering the building, students will pass through a touchless sensor that will take their temperature. Any student identified with a temperature of 100 degrees or higher will be directed to the clinic and a parent will be contacted.

    • Upon entering the building, students will have the opportunity to use hand sanitizer prior to traveling to their homeroom.

    • Students will go straight to their classroom and will keep their backpacks in their homeroom.

    • Students who want breakfast will still travel to their homeroom, where breakfast will be available and dropped off.

    • Parent Drop Off - The parents will drop off the students in the assigned area and we will have a teacher/staff meeting your child at the drop off area and will direct them to their assigned grade entrance.

  • Student Breakfast:

    • Breakfast will be delivered to the classrooms. Students will not travel to the cafeteria in the morning.

  • Essential Classes (Physical Education, Art, Music)

    • Will provide instruction in the essential clases assigned areas - i.e., Art room, gym, outside, technology room.

    • The gymnasium has enough space for students to social distance for Physical Education instruction.

  • Hallways during the school day:

    • Staff members will be in the hallways between period changes to escort groups of students to ensure social distancing.

    • We will have an established traffic flow for the whole building with a specific entry and exit flow.

    • Students should stay to the right in halls with two-way traffic.

  • Student Classrooms:

    • Upon entry into a classroom, students will use the provided hand sanitizer.

    • Students will have assigned seats for the entire quarter.

    • Student work areas will be spaced out as much as possible throughout the classroom.

    • Student chairs and desks will be intermittently cleaned throughout the day and thoroughly cleaned at night by staff.

    • Upon exiting the classroom, students will sanitize their hands.

  • Restroom Usage:

    • Students will be offered restroom breaks as part of classroom routines in order to limit students in the bathrooms.

    • During these times, all students will be required to wash their hands.

    • Bathroom passes will be limited to urgent or emergent needs.

    • Restrooms will be intermittently cleaned and disinfected throughout the day.

  • Lunch:

    • Students will be able to bring their own lunch or purchase a school lunch.

    • All lunches that are purchased in school will be grab-and-go bag lunches. We will be offering three types of lunches: the daily menu lunch, salad, or Peanut Butter/Jelly choice. All (even the hot) will be packaged for quick grab-n-go/delivery.

    • Students will eat in assigned seats in the cafeteria.

    • Students who buy lunch will walk to the kitchen to purchase lunch and bring it back to their assigned seats in the cafeteria.

    • On the days that allow it, students will have the opportunity to eat outside.

    • 4th and 5th grade classes: Some classes will eat lunch, then go to recess. Other classes will go to recess and then eat lunch.

    • Students will have the opportunity to wash and/or sanitize hands before and after lunch.

  • Recess:

    • 4th and 5th grade students will have recess daily. 6th grade students will have opportunities to go outside as well during the day.

    • Our lunch and recess monitor staff will receive additional training and assistance in facilitating student play and interaction at recess.

    • Protocols are in place to sanitize playground equipment between recess periods and throughout the day.

  • Crestwood Intermediate Common Areas:

    • Students will not be allowed to congregate in common areas such as lobbies or hallways before, during, or after school.

  • Clinic:

    • We are considering the school clinic office as a “medical office” thus we will require students to wear a mask upon entry – regardless of reason for the clinic visit.  This will avoid singling out students who enter the clinic with COVID symptoms and asking them to put on a mask for medical isolation and evaluation.

    • We do have some availability and implementation of rapid testing at school. We are working on getting more tests but we also have the take home tests available upon request.

  • Tardy and/or Early Release:

    • If a student is tardy, the adult bringing them to school will call 330-357-8203 upon arrival, and the student will walk to the front door where a staff member will let them in. Parents will provide a reason for their tardiness over the phone, as they will not physically sign them in.

    • If a student is having an early release, the adult picking them up will phone 330-357-8203.  Upon arrival,  adults will walk to the door with their ID. The adults will wait outside the main office for their students. Please call upon arrival to the building to expedite your student’s dismissal.

  • Dismissal:

    • Dismissal will have coordinated times and protocol.

    • Car riders and bus riders will be exiting at different areas and doors.

    • Everyone should model social distancing.

  • Other Safety Procedures:

    • A room separate from the school clinic has been designated for students or staff who begin to show symptoms of COVID-19 or have a temperature above 100°F while at school.

    • Opportunities for handwashing will be provided to students throughout the day.

    • Hand sanitizer will be available in high-traffic areas and students will be encouraged to sanitize hands.

    • High-touch surfaces will be cleaned frequently throughout the day.

    • Students need to bring their own water bottles, as drinking directly from fountains will be closed. Refilling personal water bottles at touchless stations will be allowed.

    • Teachers and students will clean surfaces several times per day with a Board of Health approved food-grade non-toxic sanitizer.

  • IMPORTANT NOTES:

We are anticipating the bus and parent drop off schedule to be finished by 8:40am. When students arrive at school either by bus or parent drop-off they will be walked to their HR where they can work with the teacher till HR begins at 8:42am.

We are anticipating that student pickup in the afternoon will begin at 3:15pm.

  • Due to enrollment numbers, internal staff changes, and student supports - we might have to change student homeroom assignments - if this occurs it will be communicated by the counselor in the coming weeks.

  • The students will rotate to rooms per period.

2021-22 CPS and CIS Arrival and Dismissal Plan

In accordance with restart guidelines established by the Crestwood Local Schools, Crestwood Primary School and Crestwood Intermediate School have developed the following procedures for the 2021-2022 school year. All procedures are subject to change as health alerts and the health of students and staff change. We have attempted to address several questions/concerns with as much detail at this time.

We will implement consistent protocols to how students arrive, enter the building, move through the hallways and leave the building, in an effort to provide as much social distancing and safety precautions as possible. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority.  This plan can be updated and subject to change if new information is provided to us. We ask for your patience as we implement the arrival and dismissal procedures. We have taken great care, much time and effort to create a safe and effective plan that coordinates times for families in both buildings. We will do our best to move as quickly as we can, while maintaining safety at all times. This will run slow during the first few weeks of school, but will improve as we implement it daily.

Listed below are guidelines to ensure that we are following all student safety protocols and social distancing requirements. Thank you for putting your trust in us to educate, care for and keep your children safe during these unprecedented times.  As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
